Lawrence “Larry” Yates, age 73, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Monday, May 6, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Christine Yates; daughters, Catherine Mary (Paul) Stemper and Jennifer (John) Martin; grandson, Nate Martin; and brother, Louis Yates. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Yates.Larry retired from 3M after 42 years of service. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. In his spare time, you could always find Larry on the golf course enjoying what he loved the most besides his family.A memorial mass honoring the life of Larry will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 1:00pm at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 13th from 4pm-8pm at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Lawrence Church 319 Grayson Hwy Lawrenceville, GA 30046.Condolences may be sent to or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. I have so many great memories of my special times with Larry. As a fellow co worker we enjoyed attending many events, i.e. the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, serveral trips to the 3M Wonewok Conference Center, golfing events, etc. One memory was when we were not paying attention and ran our golf cart into a pond. Of course we both said the other person was driving.
Larry was always a giving and encouraging friend. One example was the great job he did in helping to coordinate my retirement celebration. Also in my post retirement he always made a point to send me a special Veterans Day greeting. And what a great job he did in keeping us all updated with his Team Larry e-mails the past couple of years, as he certainly faught the good fight.
Thanks so much Christine, Jen and Catherine for your love and support of Larry, and for keeping us all updated on our specail friend that we will all be missing.

Larry was always the most "genuine" person I have ever met. Always chipper, smiling, friendly, kind, giving, sharing, with great character and always wanting to lift others up. God is so fortunate to have this wonderful angel join his Kingdom. I am so grateful that Larry suffers no longer. He gave it his all, as he did with everything else in his life.

My heart is burdened by the sad news and the hard facts of life and death that affect our lives when someone like Larry, whom we loved, dies. Larry's personality and charm and giving manner enriched our lives every day he was with us. May the Perpetual Light shine upon Larry forever.

I had the opportunity to work with Larry as a Saint Vincent DePaul caseworker December 2018. An elderly couple in Lawrenceville called requesting assistance to help repair their furnace. It was very cold at the time and the family used space heaters to heat their home. The repairs and full replacement of the system would cost over $1,300. Larry covered the shortfall from all the funds available and the furnace was installed in two days. He just didn’t restore the heat in the house, but the dignity of the family as well. I will always remember Larry for his generosity and unfailing kindness to strangers. RIP my fellow Vincentian.

I only knew Larry thru golf and the concern he showed about a grandson of mine who was going through cancer treatments at the same time he was. Larry always wanted to know his prognoses and when I told him he was in remission he just beamed. His smile and positive attitude made him special, a true sweetheart. you'll be missed but not forgotten.
