KIRBY – Lula Maurine Stephens Kirby, age 89, of Flowery Branch, Georgia, formerly of Lawrenceville entered into rest on Monday, May 9, 2011. She is survived by a daughter ; Linda Kirby Wilkerson of Flowery Branch, GA and son & daughter-in-law, Gene & Pat Kirby of Conyers, GA; sixteen grandchildren, Kim Chimens, Butch Kirby, Kathy Ivy, Angie Parker, Michael Wade, Sheila Hunt, Debbie Healan, Jason Wade, Chris Wade, Sharon Smith, Brad Brown, Brian Brown, Lisa Nash, Robin Gravitt, Sandra Vernon, and Michael Wilkerson; sister, Minnie Strickland of Lawrenceville, GA; numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, John Talmadge Kirby in 1984, a daughter, Ruth Brown, and her parents.   Lula Maurine Kirby was born in Lula, Georgia on December 24, 1921 to Etta Ruth Barnwell Stephens and Calley Stephens. She received her high school diploma and worked most of her life as a seamstress in men’s slack manufacturing (R & R Manufacturing). Mrs. Kirby loved to garden.   She was known for her canned tomatoes and at the age of 88 was still working in the garden, freezing & canning vegetables and sweeping off the front porch. She was a member of the Peachtree Road (Old Field) Baptist Church.   A Service Celebrating the Life of Lula Maurine Stephens Kirby will be held Thursday, May 12, 2011, at 2:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. Preston Moore officiating. Interment Gwinnett Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations are made to Mrs. Kirby’s daughter, Linda Wilkerson P.O.
