JOHN ALLAN HARTT Educator John Hartt, 66, of Stone Mountain passed away peacefully on April 23 from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. John was a relative newcomer to Atlanta. He was born and grew up in Rochester, NY. He earned a B.A. in History from Baldwin Wallace College before serving as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica for two years. Upon his return he attended University of Wisconsin, where he earned a M.A. in International Relations   He taught social studies in the Washington, D.C., Public Schools, before serving briefly in the D.C. Department of Human Resources. In 1976 he married Anne Cherry and the couple taught in an international school in Japan for three years. Upon their return to Washington, John enrolled in University of Maryland, receiving a M.A. in Counseling and College Student Personnel. He held positions as international student adviser and immigration specialist at The Catholic University of America, George Washington University, and American University, from which he retired in 2003. In 2009, John moved with his family to Stone Mountain. During his career, he published articles in “Public Citizen,” coauthored an award-winning professional journal article, and was the recipient of other administrative and student-sponsored awards. John was an avid sports fan and outdoorsman, as well as a gifted teacher and counselor. He was a loving husband, father and son. He is survived by his wife, Anne Cherry of Stone Mountain, son, Jason Hartt of Stone Mountain, brother, Thomas Hartt of Peachtree City, sister, Diane Smith, of Brookhaven, MS, sister Roberta Williams, of W.
