HUBERT NORMAN MAZZAWI Loving husband, Father, Mentor, Dr. Hugh passed peacefully to his Heavenly Father in the early morning of Saturday, January 11, 2014. He was surrounded by his family, holding him and loving him.Dr. Hugh was the founder of Drs. Hugh and Anne Mazzawi, P.A., the first dental practice in Snellville, Georgia. He loved treating his patients and building relationships. Co-workers and patients were like his extended family. In the practice, he mentored students in dentistry and life. He loved to help guide and teach. He continued after retirement to assist students and patients by volunteering at the Ben Massell Clinic in Atlanta where he could do both, mentoring dental students while treating underserved patients. He supported the profession he loved from the ground up so that all could achieve excellent oral and overall health. Memorial donations to continue his legacy, may be sent to the Drs. Hugh and Anne Mazzawi Scholarship Fund at the Emile T. Fisher Foundation, P.O. Box 1204, Rome, Georgia 30162, www.fisherdentaleducation.org.His love for life was demonstrated through his unwavering commitment to friends and family. He gave graciously and unconditionally of his time to all who requested. Dr. Hugh never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time in the company of his friends and family, hiking in the mountains, hosting family reunions at the beach, and traveling the world.Dr. Hugh is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Anne Cown Mazzawi, Dr. Mark and Ginny Mazzawi, Dr. Matt and Leigh Anne Mazzawi, Drs. Miles and Anthea Mazzawi, Dr. Marty and Zoe Mazzawi, Dr. Megan Mazzawi, Dr. Darin Wasileski, Jill Wasileski Hollenberg, John Cown, thirteen grandchildren and numerous others he claimed as his own.He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hertha Mazzawi and his first son, Joseph Michael.A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Snellville. The family will receive friends Monday, January 13, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Tom M. In the mid seventy’s Atlanta had a hockey team, Atlanta Flames. I was sixteen or so and went to over 100 hundred games, many of those games my friend and I were fortunate enough to catch rides to the games with Dr. Hugh, we could tell he was glad to do it and we all enjoyed those evenings. A couple of years later Dr. Hugh bought a old farm truck from me and he tried to overpay me for the truck, he said the truck is worth more than you want, but I would not take the extra money, I wanted him to be proud of me and he appeared to be which made me proud. A couple of years later he bought Dr. Ann to my wedding and that made me feel 10' tall other than my family they stand out in my memory of that day. Our families were intertwined growing up; Dr. Hugh had a special light around him. You can see that same light in Dr. Ann or any of their children. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Jimmy Ray
My sincere sympathy for your loss. Dr. Hugh was my dentist in 1981 and I have been a patient since that time. Dr. Hugh and Anne always made me feel like part of the family. I had the pleasure of staying at their Panama City beach condo on many occasions. What a great loss for the family and the extended family of friends and patients. Mark and i were so heart broken to hear of your fathers passing. He and your entire family have been someone the entire Snellville community has known so long and loved. Especially those of us that knew you since Grayson elementary. It was my good fortune to meet Dr. Hugh Mazzawi and Dr. Anne Mazzawi as a young attorney in Snellville in 1976. I was also fortunate enough to have them as clients and friends. Dr. Hugh was frankly one of the most multi-talented, likable, and down to earth persons I have ever met. They don't make people any better than these two. I do regret that we did not see each other so much in recent years, but I am glad to see that Dr. Hugh had some wonderful retirement years and was able to enjoy his family that was so important to him.
