Ellen Cofield Wood died peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2009, at Countryside Manor in Stokesdale, North Carolina.   Born June 3, 1919, in Loganville, Georgia, Ellen was the daughter of Moses Clifford (Buster) and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Brooks Cofield.  One of eight children, she grew up in Grayson, Georgia, where she graduated from Grayson High School.  In 1939 she married the love of her life, Ernest S. Wood, and the couple lived for most of their marriage in Atlanta, where they raised their two children.  For more than 25 years Ellen was a loyal employee of The Lovable Company before moving to Deerfield Beach, Florida, where she and Ernest owned United Carpet Company for nearly two decades. In 1995 they returned to Gwinnett County, and less than two years later Ernest passed away after 58 years of a loving partnership.  Ellen spent four happy years at Eastside Gardens in Snellville before moving to Greensboro, North Carolina, to be near her daughter.  She has lived under the attentive and loving care of Countryside Manor for the last five years.   Predeceased by her son, Ernie Jr., and her husband, Ellen is survived by a daughter, Jolaine W. Lanier, and son-in-law, Edmond B. Lanier, of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Karissa L. Grasty (Tom) of Los Angeles, CA, Dana L. Schaffer (Sam) of New Haven, CT, and Denise Wood and Ryan Wood of Cumming, GA; and a great-grandchild, Alyssa Wood, also of Cumming.  Her younger sister, Loma Waddell (Horace), resides in Loganville, Georgia. Other survivors include her brother's widow, Louise Cofield, and many nieces, nephews, and their children.  Her friends and family will miss this remarkable woman and will hold many wonderful memories close to their hearts.   The celebration of Ellen's life will be at 3PM on Wednesday, November 18, at Tom M. Wages Funeral Home on Scenic Highway in Lawrenceville, Georgia.  She will lie in state the morning of the funeral with family visitation beginning one hour before the service. Interment will follow at the cemetery adjoining Chestnut Grove Baptist Church on Rosebud Road in Grayson, Georgia, the church where she was baptized, worshiped, sang, and played the piano. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to the Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
