Mac was married to his wife, the late Peggy R. Hughes, for 74 years. Their marriage was one to be admired, full of love and devotion to each other, as well as to their children. Through their example, they showed us what it means to be a family. Mac worked hard to provide his family with all their hearts desired, full of fun surprises and adventures. He never met a stranger, and he was the ultimate friend, generous and caring, helping others in any and all ways possible. He retired after 42 years of working for The Motor Convoy (Allied Systems), hauling cars across the southeast United States. During his career, he earned numerous awards acknowledging his performance and safety standards. He was a longtime member of the Maple Leaf Hunting Club where he established lifelong friendships and created cherished memories. Mac also loved all things to do with the water, whether it was spending time at Lake Lanier, or one of his many trips to New Smyrna Beach, FL. Most of these trips were shared with his family, all of whom loved and adored him. He was the ultimate Husband, Daddy, Granddaddy, and Big Daddy. Mac was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy R. Hughes; his son-in-law, Richards L. Barnes; his daughter-in-law, Debra Hughes; his great-grandson, Max Janton; his brother, Roy Lee Hughes, Jr.; and his brother, Randy Hughes. Mac is survived by his daughters, Nancy Barnes and Debbie Hughes, both of Lawrenceville, GA; his son, Dale Hughes, of Monroe, GA; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kim and Ande McKenzie, Jefferson, GA, and Keri and Dan Janton, of Sugar Hill, GA; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Kellan McKenzie, of Jefferson, GA, and Duke and Beau Janton, of Sugar Hill, GA. We are forever thankful for his guidance and the love he gave to each of us every day of his life. He will forever live on in our hearts. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, June 14 at 11:00 AM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. Because of Mac’s deep love for his great-grandson Max, for those who desire to make memorial donations in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Maximus Janton Foundation, (www.maximusjantonfoundation.org) in his memory.
