May 7, 1944 - April 28, 2022
On Thursday, April 28th, 2022, close to his 78th birthday, Walter Joseph Neeld passed away in his sleep. Dearly loved spouse of 45 years to Irene Wall Holzworth, he is survived by her; as well as his brother, Ed and sister-in-law, Elma; and their children, Ed Jr., Erick, and Vickie, Vickie’s husband Rick; niece, Victoria Savage & nephew-in-law, Robert Kendrick; brother, Ronald; and many great nieces and nephews. Walt joined the United States Navy in 1962 and completed active duty in a 6-year tour traveling around the world. This whet his appetite for travel and he became an avid international traveler, scuba diver, and skier on both snow and water. He loved the outdoors and strength training, and was also a talented Sudoku puzzle-solver, staying fit both physically and mentally until his passing. He worked for many years at U-Haul in Macon, Georgia, before moving to the Atlanta area where he flourished as a contractor and all-around handyman. In later years, he became a multi-property owner with his wife Irene where they leased and cared for their properties, and became friends with many of their long-term tenants. He was gentle and kind, loved by all who knew him for his easy laugh, wonderful sense of humor, and upbeat, can-do attitude. Whether someone was a tenant, a neighbor, or a family member, they could count on Walt to listen and help whenever he could. He will be greatly missed by all. A public visitation will be held at Tom Wages Lawrenceville Chapel on Friday, May 6th, at 1:00 PM, with a chapel ceremony to follow at 2:00 PM, 120 Scenic Hwy, Lawrenceville, GA, 30046. Walt supported many non-profit organizations that help disabled military veterans. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a contribution to one of the following organizations: The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP, https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org), Fisher House (https://fisherhouse.org), and/or The Independence Fund (https://independencefund.org). Thank you for your support. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, 120 Scenic Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046 (770-963-2411) has been entrusted with the arrangements.
