Sherman Ranald Woodley Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sherman Ranald Woodley was welcomed into this world by his parents, Sherman R. Woodley and Connie Ray Tanner on November 16, 1970, in Alexandria, Louisiana, the offspring of large extended families. Randy’s father pursued a career in the United States Army and served in various posts in the United States and Germany. Randy adjusted to many moves and many new friends. These experiences served him well for the kind of life he was building for himself. Randy graduated from Lithonia High School in Lithonia, GA, June 9, 1989. He attended Louisiana State University and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1994. Randy’s first job was at Bell South, Atlanta, GA, as a Telecommunications Engineer, 1994-1996. In 1996, he was hired for what he considered his dream job, one upon which he could build a career with the United States National Security Agency (NSA). Randy served in posts in Japan, Thailand, Germany and Baltimore, Maryland. Randy was with NSA for 26 years until his death. He rose to the level of GS-15 and held the position of Technical Director. Randy was an avid traveler. He prided himself on the countries he visited – like, Yugoslavia, Austria, Greece, Australia, Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Canada, Pakistan, South Korea, England, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and several African and South American Countries. He was an avid LSU football and basketball fan. His favorite NFL team was the Minnesota Vikings. He was passionate about work, passionate about mentoring young people, passionate about encouraging his friends and he was passionate about enjoying life. In addition to his extensive travel, Randy was a proud co-founder of the Yacht Brothers Boating Club and constantly invited family and friends to spend time with him in this endeavor. He liked playing golf, but the highlight of his fun-time activities was Salsa Dancing. Randy was bold, confident, stubborn and caring. He lived his life to the fullest. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his parents, Sherman and Connie Woodley; his brother, Barry; grandmother, Leona Tanner; as well as a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and longtime companion, Peeraya Dockery. Randy departed this world on June 6, 2022. The memorial service to celebrate the life of Sherman Ranald Woodley will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Due to COVID-19 regulations, our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve.
