August 30, 1931 - October 6, 2021
On Wednesday, October 6, 2021 Ruth Frances (Bennett) Humphrey, 90, of Stone Mountain, Georgia was wrapped in the arms of the Lord and moved to her heavenly home. There she was joyfully reunited with her beloved Anthony, her parents, nine siblings and her eldest son. Born on August 30, 1931 in Follett,Texas to the late Mark and Edna (Hull) Bennett of Canadian, Texas, Ruth was a true Texan through and through. She raised three sons and one daughter with the late James Icenogle. Ruth was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family immensely. She was strong in her faith, spending time daily studying her Bible and thanking the Lord every day for her blessings. Though she was humbled before Christ, nevertheless, she was a powerful prayer warrior. Only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact her many years of faithful praying have had on her family, friends and the world at large. Later in life, she met Anthony Humphrey and together they retired to Raleigh, North Carolina. There she was a member of Vision Baptist Church in Knightdale. They enjoyed bowling, playing golf and card games. Her hobbies included making porcelain dolls with hand sewn clothes for each unique doll which she displayed proudly in their home. Her work as a seamstress was exemplary. Following the death of Tony, Ruth moved to Telford, Tennessee. There she was a member of Boone Trail Baptist Church. Ruth volunteered at the Jonesborough Tennessee Senior Citizens Center and was delighted that she got to help “old people” with crafts, quilting and paper embroidery. Many years ago, she moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia where she continued her crafting by making greeting cards with the help of her sons Billy and Ricky. Some cards were personal ones for holidays and birthdays for her family, and others were used as a ministry to send to church members who were sick. Ruth maintained her quick wit and humor which kept everyone entertained and on their toes. She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox, and would have quipped that it was about time they won a game against the New York Yankees on October 5, 2021! She thoroughly enjoyed watching golf, and often would critique the rounds of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband Anthony Humphrey, her parents Mark and Edna Bennett, seven brothers- Don, Dwayne, Edmond, Harley, Jack, Louis and Wes Bennett, and two sisters Louise (Bennett) Wilson and Vera (Bennett) Childress, and her eldest son, Billy Icenogle. She is survived by her daughter Loretta (Icenogle) Edwards (Ron Berry) of Jonesborough, Tennessee, two sons- Ricky Icenogle (Susan) of Stone Mountain, Georgia and Winfred Icenogle (Vicky) of Ragley, Louisiana, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Additionally, Ruth is survived by a special niece whom she called her “other daughter”, Claudia Murray Watson Howard of Lindsey, Oklahoma, and a very precious friend Mrs. Anne Capucillo (age 102) of Raleigh, North Carolina to whom she still spoke to regularly. All of whom will all honor her legacy for the rest of their lives. The family would like to give a special thank you to Sherry’s Comfort Care, LLC and the wonderful caregivers who kept their mother engaged in prayer and humorous conversations during her last months on this side of heaven.
