Thinking of you with loving memories as I watch your Virginia Tech's Hokies play Clemson's Tigers.
Cousin Rod was a very special person, especially to me. He kept in touch with me after Galen died. Once he sent me a CD of Old Time songs. He did so much work in sending out the news letter to all the Rakes. I still have mine in a scrap book. I loved cousin Rod and Betty. They honored me in spending a night with me one time. He was a good man, and a great man. Deepest sympathy to Betty and the family. I love you all...Bernice
My fondest memories of Rod gather around his great love for his family. Not only for his wife Betty and their wonderful children and grandchildren but also for the entire Rakes family. He graciously and joyfully carried on the tradition of the “Rakes” boy’s family reunions for many years as long as he was able. As a result multiple generations of the Rakes family and extended family came to know, love and respect Rodney Gene Rakes. Thank you Rod for loving your family and making such a wonderful impact on so many. Our prayers are with your family. You will be greatly missed and we look forward to the greatest reunion when we can meet again in heaven. May God’s grace, mercy, peace and love comfort your loved ones during this time.
