Richard B. Sanders, Jr., age 68 born in Thomasville, GA on December 5th 1951, passed away on Thursday, April 30th 2020. He was a beloved husband of Sabrina Harlem Sanders; and the loving father of Omar Anderson, Antuan Sanders, Sr. (deceased), and Ciara Harlem. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Sanders and Richard B Sanders, Sr. Along with his wife and children, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Joann Harlem (Leroy Harlem, Jr. deceased); siblings, Daniel Sanders and Michael Sanders; daughter-in-law, Shumeki Sanders; grandchildren, Antuan Sanders, Jr., Da’jshon Sanders, and Maddox Anderson: brother-in-law, Laron Harlem, Sr.; sister-in-law, Judy Williams; sister-in-law, Qiana Harlem Smith; nieces and nephews: Ashley Sanders, Alysia Sanders, Julian Sanders, Alex Smith, Fredricia Cain, Fredric Cain, III, Anjanae McClain, Laron Harlem, Jr., Carlos Harlem, Chanelle Harlem, Jimmeellia Smith, Jimmeell Smith, and Myrita Williams; and a host of cousins and family members. Richard was a native of Stone Mountain, GA. He was born in Thomasville, GA. He was a Vietnam veteran (Army), worked at Fulton County Jail for 22 years, retired, then worked for DeKalb County School System for 11 years.His hobbies included reading, playing music, and dancing. He loved talking about politics and events. Richard was a people person. Nobody was a stranger to Richard and everybody was family to him. He loved football and was a huge Falcons fan. Prayers sent to the Harlem and Sanders Families during this difficult time.
Mr. Sanders was the saintly bus driver for my four kids, driving them to and from Fernbank Elementary school for more than a decade. He was kind and caring and full of love, and protected them from any bullies on the bus. Seeing him each morning and afternoon as he greeted me with a smile could not help but cheer me up regardless what else was going on.
He was always thoughtful and interested in me and all my children. I was always grateful for his gentle corrections of my kids' imperfect behavior on his bus. They would always listen and respond to his firm but gentle comment to them. Completely diligent at his work, I could set my watch by his arrival time of 6:42 in the morning and 2:53 in the afternoon.
He was an inspiration as he dealt with his illness, never complaining, always smiling, always grateful for what he had.
He was an important example for me and my children of gentle strength and caring optimism. We are better people for his having been our bus driver and friend. We will miss you, Mr. Sanders.

We were so lucky to have Mr. Sanders work with us at Fernbank as one of our bus drivers. He knew all the kids on his route and was a kind and generous person. He will be missed.

Richard was a part of a very special family. He worked for Fulton County Corrections for a number of years, before he was transferred to the Sheriff’s Depr. Sanders always had a smile on his face for everyone. You only knew he was serious when he looked at you over his glasses. He never met a stranger.
