She was born on November 24, 1929 to the late Noyes and Hattie Rice, and was a cherished daughter and sister. Peggy was a devoted wife to her husband, Mac, the one true love of her life. Their love story continued for 74 years, making their dreams come true while raising their family. Beautiful inside and out, Peggy drew people in with her wit and sparkling personality, resulting in long-lasting friendships. She was a breast cancer survivor and pink was her signature color. She was an avid shopper and loved to travel. She especially loved the multi-family trips they took each summer, for over 30 years, to New Smyrna Beach, FL. Most of all, she loved creating a loving and happy home for her family. As a Wife, Mother, Grandma, and Gigi, her love was given freely and she was greatly loved in return. Peggy was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Richard L. Barnes; her daughter-in-law, Debra Hughes; her great-grandson, Max Janton; her sister, Ann Donehoo; and her two brothers, Hoyt Rice and Duke Rice. Peggy is survived by her husband, Mac Hughes, of Lawrenceville, GA; her daughters, Nancy Barnes and Debbie Hughes, both of Lawrenceville, GA; her son, Dale Hughes, of Monroe, GA; two granddaughters and their husbands, Kim and Ande McKenzie, of Jefferson, GA, and Keri and Dan Janton, of Sugar Hill, GA; four great-grandchildren, Evan and Kellan McKenzie, of Jefferson, GA, and Duke and Beau Janton, of Sugar Hill, GA; sisters, Jane Tidwell, RueNell Pair, and Judy Odom; brothers, Hugh Rice and Dan Rice; and several nieces and nephews. Her family is so grateful for the gift of Peggy’s long and beautiful life and for the gift of belonging to her. She will live on in our hearts forever. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel.
