Michael “Mike” Joseph Moon, age 70, of Dacula, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 3, 2022 at his home surrounded by his devoted family, after a gallant journey with cancer. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Dixie Smith Moon; children, Stacy Moon-Richardson (Scott) of Homer, GA, Michele Smith (Shane) of Gainesville, GA, Clay Moon of Dacula, GA, Greg Harvey (Tonya) of Dacula, GA, Gina Wallace (Ronnie) of Winder, GA; 10 grandchildren, Amber, Graham, Tyler, Blake, Sarah, Ryan, Bailey, Lily, Jacob and Ethan; 7 great grandchildren, Brayden, Emersyn, Cooper, Millie, Malachi, Grant and Brooklyn; brother, Gary Moon (Sheila) Moon of Braselton, GA; sister, Jean Moon (Randy) Moon of Buford, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Moon and Sarah Mann Moon; 3 brothers, Kenneth Moon, Herman Moon, and Perry Moon. Mike was born in Duluth, Georgia, on March 22, 1952. He was raised and attended school in Duluth until his family moved to Dacula in 1971. He worked in the building and construction business for many years and also was over road Truck Driver. He served as the Mayor of Dacula from 1994 to 1998, then in 1999 became a Councilman in Dacula. He retired from the Maintenance Department in Dacula after service the City of Dacula for over a decade. He served on the original committee that developed the Memorial Day Parade in Dacula which still occurs each year. This parade is one of the oldest-running Memorial Day Parades in the State of Georgia. In 2016 his son-in-law, Scott Richardson, gave one of his kidneys to Mike which gave him the gift of life for several more years. He was a devoted member at Hebron Baptist Church in Dacula where he served in the Bus Ministry (Mike was known to hit mailboxes from time to time because of the narrow roads in the area). He was an avid and devoted Georgia Bulldog fan and also loved NASCAR racing, especially watching Dale Earnhardt. He has an old 1929 A Model which he would drive in various parades. Mike loved and adored his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. Mike was a very patriotic man who believed in the freedoms that were given to all of us because of the military service rendered by his fellow man. He will be deeply missed by his beloved family and many friends. The Service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Mike Moon will be held on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 3:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. Larry Wynn officiating and Family Members Sharing Memories. Interment will follow at Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery, Dacula, GA.
