On June 2nd, 2017 a hero became an angel. Our hearts can’t express the emotions of losing this wonderful man, Mike Johnson. He was born April 5, 1930 in Philadelphia and resided in Stone Mountain since 1968. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War. He served on the USS Oriskany, Coral Sea, Midway and Roosevelt aircraft carriers. He was born under the American flag, served for what it stands for, and died believing in that honor. Mike loved his family, God, and his country. He was a staunch supporter of our military, our public safety entities and the men and women who protect and serve our country. Mike Johnson was a Galvin Master member of Motorola, selling communication systems for them for over 30 years. After retiring, he volunteered with the Atlanta Olympic Committee and was an active sponsor participant of the Atlanta Games in 1996. Mike loved the Atlanta Falcons and was a season ticket holder for 27 years. He was grateful for jazz music, the lifelong friends at Motorola and contributions at the Atlanta Olympics. He was the kindest man on Earth and thankful for those who were around him. Mike believed in the power of being friendly to others. Mike was married to Gloria Johnson of Florida for 40 years (died in 1993). He is survived by his daughter Patti Ludlow, her husband Kenny; her son Marshall (29) and his daughter Aubrey (11). He is also survived by his son Kevin Johnson, his wife Ellen; and their children Matthew (27), Kristen (23), Steven (20) and Daniel (18). Visitation for Vincent (Mike) Johnson, age 87 will be held on Friday, June 9th, 2017 from 6-8pm at Wages Funeral Home on Highway 78. Services will be held Saturday June 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Mountain Park United Methodist Church on Rockbridge Road, Stone Mountain. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Alz.org. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, LLC, A Family Company, 3705 Highway 78 West, Snellville, GA 30039 (770-979-3200) has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Such a kind gentleman! He was so friendly and every time I saw him around the office (@ the old Motorola Panola Road facility) he was passing out complements or opening/holding doors.

When the gates of Heaven opened on Saturday they were thrilled to receive Mike Johnson. He was probably one of the sweetest, kindest, most considerate men I have ever known and we never met in person...but we spoke a lot over the years and I learned so much about him and his family. He was so proud of Kevin and Patty and his grandchildren. I think he must have been an awesome Father and I am glad he has finished his life here that he lived so well and will enjoy his eternal rest. I will forever hold him in the highest esteem and one day I will look him up when I get there too! God puts people in your path and I am so glad he put him in mine!

To all of Mike's Family,
Mike was extremely kind and compassionate. He was also excruciatingly FUNNY. I remember a Halloween where his "costume" at work was a red pair of "long johns". At the time I was working in parts at Motorola and was taking a phone order. Here came Mike, he turned his back to me, dropped the seat of his "drawers" and I was faced with a fake fanny! Then he'd pull his drawers up and leave, quick as a bunny!!! I couldn't speak I was laughing so hard. He did the same with everyone in parts. All with a straight face! It was HYSTERICAL. We were almost falling off of our chairs. That's the Mike I'll always remember. He'd do anything to make a brighter day for whoever he was around. I'll always remember his smile, those mischievous sparkling eyes and his unsurpassed work ethic. He loved his dear family so much and was so proud of them.
I'm sure he and God are having a VERY interesting discussion about the day he made everyone in our building laugh so hard.Rest in Peace, my friend.
