Michael John Henry Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Michael John Henry (Mike), age 70, Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed on August 3, 2022 at his home while surrounded by family after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Michael was born September 10, 1951, in Frankfort, Germany to John Henry and Maria Fahrngruber, a Major and a homemaker. At an early age, Michael moved from overseas with his parents, sister, and younger brother to Fort Benning in Columbus, Georgia. As a teenager, Michael played on the 1967 Babe Ruth Championship winning South Columbus baseball team. He went on to graduate from Baker High School and later received his Bachelor’s degree from Columbus State College. If you knew Michael, you knew that despite his jokes and eyerolls, his family was the most important thing in the world to him. He married the love of his life, Brenda Marie Henry, on July 18, 1982, in Columbus, Georgia. The family eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where they raised their three wonderful children. Whether it was bringing home presents after traveling for work, becoming a leader in Scouting for many years, or engineering a trip to Florida with the entire family (kids and grandkids included) included Michael showed his love for his family every chance he could. Michael had a long and impactful career in accounting, where his passions for understanding transactions and making things fit “just right” were able to shine. Always driven by the desire to provide the best possible lives for his family, Michael’s long and successful career culminated in a decade as Chief Financial Officer for the Grady Health Foundation. He took great pride in seeing the impact of his work through the various charitable actions of the Foundation and enjoyed having his family participate in the VeloCity biking fundraiser before his retirement. In addition to his career, Michael was an enthusiast for both fountain pens and firearms and tried to never miss the local pen and gun shows. Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marie; daughter, Sandra O’Hara (Jeff); sons, Jonathan Henry (Catherine) and Christopher Henry (Heather); five grandchildren, James, Conner, Ryan O’Hara, Lucas, and Joseph Henry; his sister, Brigitte Marchman (Taylor); his nephew, David Chaplin (Stacee); his nieces, Kaitlyn and Courtney Chaplin; and his godmother, Henriette Smith. Mike is predeceased in death by his father, John (1972); his mother, Maria (2014); his brother, Richard (1997); and his grandson, Isaac (2017). A celebration of life will be held at The Payne/Corley House 2987 Main St, Duluth, GA 30096 at a later time. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
