Michael C. Bernard, age 89 of Atlanta, GA, passed away on Monday, April 9, 2018. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, George & Rachel Bernard; his brother, George Bernard; and sister, Rose Hogan.After serving his country in the US Army, he went to college and graduated with his PHD in engineering at Perdu University. He then made Atlanta, GA his home. Michael was a tenured Professor at Georgia Tech and taught mechanical engineering. Michael loved to work in his yard and play tennis.The Funeral Service to honor and celebrate the life of Michael C. Bernard will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Cathedral of Christ the King, Atlanta, GA. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, GA at 12:30pm. I met Mike in 2007 when I started playing tennis at Bitsy Tennis Center. I continued to play tennis with Mike at Brittany Club until last year. I always remember how independent he was. As a bachelor, he learned how to do everything. He enjoyed telling us his life stories and the most recent episodes. It was my honor to have know him.

I am sorry to hear that Mike has passed. We became acquainted after my retirement in 2001. From then until Bitsy operations were contracted to a private company, we often worked together on maintenance items on the courts.
During all of this time, he restrung my racquets. His last restring job for me was about 6 months ago. Also, I was once up a ladder in a tree in his backyard with a chain saw to cut off a large limb that he wanted removed.
Mike was a good guy and I appreciated his friendship.
