Mavis Bramlett

July 1, 1932 - March 31, 2022

Mavis A. Bramlett, age 89, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, March 31, 2022. Mavis was born on July 1, 1932 in Stephens, Georgia, to Weaver and Nora Adkins. As the tenth of eleven children she learned early the importance of hard work and family. After graduating from Oglethorpe County High School, where she enjoyed playing on the basketball team with her younger sister Imogene, she moved to the big city of Atlanta. After arriving in Atlanta, she moved in with her older sister Credelle and began working for the telephone company. In 1948 at the Greyhound Bus Station in Athens, she met the love of her life Dewey Bramlett who had just returned home to Georgia after his military service. They would go on to marry on June 9, 1953 and remain devoted to one another until Dewey’s passing in 2005. The couple settled into suburban Atlanta life and added a baby girl Sandra in 1958. In 1965 a baby boy Scott was born and completed the classic American nuclear family. Shortly after Scott’s birth, Mavis began a new career as a bookkeeper for Tucker Wayne Advertising where she worked for 31 years. In 1975 the family moved to Lawrenceville, Georgia, and became members of Westside Baptist Church, where they formed long lasting friendships with other members based on their shared love of service. They worked together to help the community by starting and managing the church’s Bread Ministry (food bank) for those underserved in the community. They also dedicated time to the youth ministry, taking groups of kids from the church waterskiing at Lake Lanier and always helping with Vacation Bible School. After her retirement she and Dewey continued their work at the church and continued to enjoy gardening, canning fruits and vegetables, attending bible studies, taking trips with the Seniors Group at church, and visiting/spoiling her grandchildren, Jordan, Micah, Nathan and Kylee. Mavis was predeceased by her husband, Dewey; and sisters, Emily Smith, Ruth Sanders, Ruby Turner, Helen Harper, Beatrice Morris, Agnes Partridge, Bernice Adams, Credelle Airail, Willie Howard Adkins, and Imogene Cowart. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Conway; son, Scott Bramlett; grandchildren, Jordan Conway, Micah Bramlett, Nathan Bramlett and Kylee Bramlett; and great grandchild, Carter Bramlett. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Mavis A. Bramlett will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Monday prior to the service from 11:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
