Mary Brooks Harmon, age 94, of Lilburn, GA, passed away Friday, May 11, 2018. Born January 1, 1924 in Gwinnett County, she was predeceased by her parents, Gueston and Era Brooks; her brother, Artis Brooks; and her husband of more than 57 years, Charles Stewart Harmon.Mary graduated from Snellville High School in 1941. She retired from the U.S. Department of the Army at Atlanta’s Fort McPherson in 1980 following almost 38 years of government service. Her federal service began in 1942 in Atlanta with the U.S. War Department, Ordinance Branch. When World War II was over she transferred to the Veterans Administration for eight years and served both in Marietta and Atlanta before moving in 1954 to the Department of the Army at the Atlanta Army Depot (Fort Gillem). Mary served in Finance and was the recipient of several awards throughout her career honoring her work and service. In 1960 she transferred to the Department of Defense and remained at the Depot where she worked in Defense Surplus Sales. In 1973 Mary moved to the Defense Contract Administration (DCASR) with offices in Buckhead and again in Marietta. She moved back to Fort McPherson in 1975 with the Department of the Army and served in payroll before officially retiring. Mary was a member of Perkerson Baptist Church in Atlanta for more than 55 years. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Charles and Sharon Harmon of Clayton, Ga; grandson and granddaughter in law, Brad and Catherine Harmon of Greenville, S.C.; sisters, Doris Bryan of Snellville and Bettie Brooks of Lilburn, and Ellen Stover of Lilburn, Ga; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.The Funeral Service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Mary Brooks Harmon will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, Ga. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive, SW, Atlanta, GA. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 14, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Tom M.
