Marilynn Tanner Fletcher, 90, formally of Parrott, Georgia, passed away peacefully at Life Care of Lawrenceville on Monday morning, July 2, 2018. She was born on July 28, 1927 in Parrott, Georgia. Her parents were George Emory Tanner of Cuthbert, Georgia and Ouida Marshall Tanner of Parrott, Georgia. Her father died at the age of 27, just days after Marilynn’s birth. She was raised by her devoted mother and her maternal grandmother, Pearle Pinkston Marshall. She graduated for Parrott High School in 1944 and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she majored in Distributive Education and graduated in 1948.Marilynn married her childhood sweetheart, William Henry Fletcher, also of Parrott on September 4, 1948 at Parrott Baptist Church. They moved to Athens where William attended the University of Georgia and Marilynn worked for Belk’s Department Store. During their married life, they lived in Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia. She always remained tied to her college and served as the President for the Northern Virginia Chapter of the Alumni of GSCW for many years. Practicing the art that she learned from her grandmother, she was a fabulous cook. Her cornbread dressing and buttermilk pound cake were favorites of her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitching, reading, substitute teaching, traveling, going to the mountains, and going to the beach.She was preceded in death by her father, George Tanner, and her mother, Ouida Tanner. She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, William H. Fletcher, her daughters Georganne (Ken) Honeycutt, Laurie (Gerry Wood) Fletcher, her grandchildren Claire (Venn) Honeycutt, Graham (Heather) Honeycutt, Carlyn Wood, Peyton Wood, her great-grandchildren Mikayla, Arya, Ainsley, Hailey, Maya, Caroline, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
