Please select this link to watch the memorial service for Lewis Henry Taylor, Jr. Lewis Henry Taylor, Jr. was born in Columbus, Georgia, on September 24, 1949. He was the first of four children born to the late Annie Ruth Adams Taylor and Lewis Henry Taylor, Sr. In high school, Lewis was a popular and well-known student, athlete, and singer. He graduated from Spencer High School in Columbus GA. Lewis joined the Air Force after high school, then left to attend college. He earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Speech and History and a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy and Administration from Troy State University. He returned to the Air Force in 1981 and became a proud member of the Security Forces Squadron, where he served until his retirement in 1993. Lewis was not only a scholar, but also a talented singer and actor. In the Air Force, he won the Top Male Vocalist category on several occasions and sang with the professional “Tops in Blue” Air Force Talent Show. He also debuted as a supporting actor in the movie Norma Rae, and acted in multiple theater plays. Lewis confessed faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized in Columbus, Georgia. Lewis also sang tenor and bass in his church choir at duty stations throughout his Air Force career and into retirement. Lewis was married to Pamela Hopkins Taylor for 40 years and 10 months. Pam and Lewis were stationed in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for 6 years; İncirlik, Turkey (home of the church of Smyrna from the book of Revelation) for 4 years, and finished his active duty career with a 2 year stint in Wichita, Kansas. They retired to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1993. Lewis and Pam had one son, Akeem Jerome (AJ) Taylor. Akeem blessed his parents with their grandson, Thomas Marcus Taylor. Some of Lewis’s favorite moments were spent with his grandsons Christopher and Tommy, including fishing at the lake and attending the Renaissance festival. Lewis excelled in Professional Military Education throughout the years and trained hundreds of Security Forces personnel in current base security, small arms marksmanship, and force protection measures. As a civilian, he continued to work and teach at the Georgia Department of Corrections. Lewis honorably served as a decorated Airman in the United States Air Force for a total of 20 years. He was awarded the following combat and service medals: National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Overseas Tour, Air Force Overseas Tour, and Air Force Good Conduct Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters. Lewis earned expert status as a small arms expert marksman and was a distinguished graduate of the Air Force NCO Academy. Lewis passed away quietly on March 20, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jerome Taylor, who honorably served in the Vietnam War. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Pam Taylor; and their son, AJ (Charmaine); sons, Lewis III (Triple), Lawrence Taylor, and Curtis Stinson (Nena); his siblings, Sylvia Braggs and Ronald Taylor (Arnetta); grandsons, Christopher Stinson and Thomas Marcus Taylor; his nieces and nephews, Emil Lewis Jr., Eric Braggs, Daphne Cook, Genevieve Lewis, Danielle Braggs, Ronald Bias, Alexander, Joseph and Omar Spikes; aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other nieces, nephews and relatives; and many dear friends, former students, former colleagues, and fellow veterans. The service to celebrate the life of Lewis Henry Taylor, Jr. will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday prior to the service from 10:00 AM until the time of service 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
