Warner “Landy” Henderson, age 78, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 28, 2017, after a gallant fight against cancer. He was a 1957 graduate of Lawrenceville High School and served in the United States Army. Landy met Linda while he was working with the DOT in Lawrenceville and Linda was working with the Gwinnett County Credit Bureau. He asked Bobby Sikes, “Who is that girl”? Bobby told June Brannon that Landy wanted to meet Linda…and the rest is history. It was meant to be! Landy was the former owner of the Gulf Service Station across from Central Gwinnett High School, a car salesman, and bus driver for Gwinnett County Schools. Landy and Linda’s catering business began in the early 1990’s with The Tabernacle’s Valentine Day celebration, other special events, and then came the opening of Celebrate the Occasion Catering in Lawrenceville. Landy, Linda, their son, Matt, and their amazing team of professionals, always set themselves apart by their attention to detail and consistently fresh, home-made food. They focused on fine southern and traditional American home cooked meals. From wedding receptions, business meetings, receptions after a funeral or memorial service, baby showers, Christmas parties, and so many other special events that Landy, Linda and their team served at Trackside and other event locations; you would never find a more accommodating group of professionals anywhere. The Henderson’s were always there for everyone in the community. Kind, professional, and understanding…that was Landy Henderson. The wonderful fellowship and southern food at The Chew Chew Café at the Depot will be remembered forever. After Linda’s death, Landy stepped-back from catering. It was just too hard without the love of his life and business partner. Landy was a member at Sunrise Baptist Church and enjoyed his family so much over the years. He was an avid Braves fan and watched them all the time on television, and during his lifetime enjoyed fishing and hunting. Most recently Landy enjoyed sightseeing in Alaska with his granddaughter, Micaela. This gentle, southern gentleman will be deeply missed by his adoring family and by everyone that had the opportunity to experience true southern hospitality through the amazing gift of unique cooking. We know that heaven is so special now with Landy, Linda, and Laura together again with other family members with them. The Service Honoring the Life of Landy Henderson will be held Monday, July 31, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at Sunrise Baptist Church with Dr. David Poe and Dr. Pat Kilby officiating.
