Kenneth Morrison

Kenneth E. Morrison, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away on September 2, 2017. He was born on November 26, 1950, in Portales, New Mexico, to Vernon and Edna Morrison. He graduated from Portales High School in 1968. In February 1970 he joined the Navy, where he served on the submarine USS Wahoo in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Japan, and the Philippines; later returning to San Diego, CA. After his discharge in 1974 he moved to Roswell, NM, to attend refrigeration school. In January 1975 he married Sherry Adams. After Ken’s graduation from refrigeration school, they moved to Las Cruces, NM, to study engineering; but soon needed to work full-time to support his family. They moved to El Paso, TX in May 1976 where their first son, Ben, was born in November 1976. In August 1977 they moved back to Las Cruces where Ken continued to work in heating and air conditioning. At that time he also started working under the guidance of a preacher for the church of Christ, and soon he was preaching part-time in both Las Cruces and El Paso. In May of 1979 they moved to Roswell, NM for his first full-time preaching job. In September of 1980 their second son, Adam, was born. In January of 1984 they adopted their daughter, Brandy. To help meet Brandy’s special needs, Ken decided to pursue a degree in Communication Disorders at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, so the family moved there in January of 1986. While Ken went to school full-time, he also preached part-time until November of 1987 when he began preaching full-time. In 1987, Ken graduated with a double Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Speech Pathology, and in 1989 earned his Master’s degree in Communication Disorders. After graduation, he was hired by the public school system and went back to preaching part-time. He retired in 2010 and in 2012, he, Sherry, and Brandy moved to Lawrenceville, GA, and lived there until his death.He is survived by his wife Sherry of the home, son Ben Morrison with wife Audrey of Boise, ID, son Adam Morrison with wife Stephanie of Lawrenceville, GA, and daughter Brandy Morrison of the home; five grandchildren: Bailee and Morgan Morrison of Boise, and Logan, Kelsey and Ian Morrison of Lawrenceville; his mother Edna Morrison of Portales, NM; two sisters, Letha Fink of Idaho Springs, CO, and Dona Skinner with husband Jon of Portales, NM. He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Morrison, and a sister, Alta Rendon.A Funeral Service Honoring the Life of Kenneth will be held on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 11:00AM at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Sewell Hall officiating. Interment will be held at 2:30PM at Georgia National Cemetery.
