Joe raised six loving children, and celebrated two wonderful marriages. He is survived by his loving Shih Tzu, CJ, children, Ray Saltamacchio of Eatonton, GA, Debra (Gary) Taylor of Lawrenceville, GA, Philip (Pat) Saltamacchio of Monroe, GA, Louvenia (Steve) Ringuette of Oak Harbor, WA, Loretta (Bob) Peña of Lawrenceville, GA, Teri Williams of Carrollton, GA; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph del Toro and Mary (Orso) del Toro, first wife, Elizabeth L. Saltamacchio, grandson, Jeff Saltamacchio, second wife, Sheila “Cookie” Saltamacchio, daughter-in-law, Brenda Saltamacchio, and brother, Frank Reichel. Joe was born in Manhattan, New York on December 26, 1929 and raised by foster parents. Joe was a hard worker his entire life. He worked as a mail carrier out of the Atlanta Post Office and was known for answering letters for Santa Claus from the children on his route. He worked many years in home construction, remodeling and roofing. He worked for Home Depot for 14 years where he was known, by just about everyone that came in, as the “Godfather.” In retirement, Joe made it his mission to brighten the lives of friends, family and the infirmed by making and sending custom greeting cards for everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, get well and all other special occasions. He will be missed by his beloved CJ, adoring family and the many lives he touched during his lifetime. It was Mr. Saltamacchio’s request to be cremated. A Memorial Service to honor the Life of Joe will be held on Sunday, February 20, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. There will be a gathering of friends in the Community Room at the funeral home after the service.
