Joan Fowler went Home on December 10, 2021 peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Joan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She is predeceased by her parents, Curt and Mary Kunz; her loving husband of 70 years, Jerry; her son, Steven; her sister, Virginia; and niece Leslie. Joan leaves behind her daughters, Susan Fowler Graham (Paul) and Jeanne Fowler Gardner (John); her grandchildren, Matthew Troy, Madeline Troy, Kati Jo Graham and Spencer Graham; as well as her sister, Marilyn Kunz Wade.Joan Marie Kunz Fowler was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 3, 1930 to Curtis and Mary Kunz. Joan was the middle child of three girls. She grew up on a farm until she was in high school and then moved into the city of Grove City, Ohio. She was a gifted piano player who could play by ear and could still enjoy her gift until shortly before she died. She also had an amazing singing voice, singing in her church choirs and several singing groups. Joan was a good athlete and cheered for Grove City High School as well as participating on the High School Track Team.Joan married Jerry James Fowler on April 14, 1950 and adopted two children Steven and Susan and was blessed to give birth to their third child Jeanne. The Fowler’s moved around a good bit living in Ohio, Michigan, Virginia, Florida and settled in Georgia so they could enjoy their grandchildren.Joan had numerous jobs beginning with Nationwide Insurance in Columbus and later settling in at a private school, Sweetwater Episcopal Academy located in Longwood, Florida. She served as the Assistant to the Head Master. Joan was an integral part of the school, teaching music, acting as the school nurse and posing for the schools brochure on occasion. Her dedication to the school lead to a building named in her honor – The Joan Fowler Building..A Celebration of Life for both Joan and Jerry Fowler will be held at Sugarloaf Country Club in Duluth, Georgia February 12, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com.
