Jimmy is preceded in death by son, Scott Carl Wheeler; parents, James Wheeler and Dorothy Wheeler; stepparents, George and June Rape; brother, Raymond Wheeler; sister, Jeanette Medlock, and in-laws, Fred and Pat Azar. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia (Pat) Azar Wheeler; sister-in-law, Joan Caviness; brother-in-law, Nick (Patty) Azar; and many nieces and nephews; he is also survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, Jimmy Jr (Angie) Wheeler, Aundrea Allen Wright (Anna, Miley, & Leland), Drew (Heather) Allen (McKinlee & Briggs), Madison Wheeler; Todd (Kim) Wheeler, Morgan (Matt) Smith (Kodah, Levy), Colby (Dale) Ellis (Knox, Selah), Brooke (Spencer) McCorkle, Nora Schneider; Scott (Kim) Wheeler, Ashleigh (Matt) MacAskill (Aaron & Henry), Andy O’Reilly, Sadie Wheeler (Scottie); Sheri (John) Palmer, Alex (Jeremy) Gable (Emory and Adley), Walt (Taylor) Palmer. Jimmy was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia and graduated from Hoke Smith High school. He served in the U.S. National Guard and then was a member and Assistant Business Manager of IBEW Local 613 in Atlanta. He led multiple family members and friends to careers as electricians and electrical parts and equipment sales. He was a devoted fan of Georgia Tech, Atlanta Braves, and Atlanta Falcons. He loved all sports including Nascar, golf, football, and baseball. He coached kids in softball, baseball and street hockey for many years and was a mentor to many of those kids. Above all this, he loved and enjoyed being with his family. He was considered a second dad to many of this children’s friends and lovingly referred to as the “Old Man” by them. He loved sweets, especially chocolate. If there was only one piece of chocolate cake left, he would fight you for it. When anyone said “I love you,” he always replied with “love you more!” because that was his motto. Jimmy was loved and cherished by his wife, Pat as well as his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jimmy met Pat while in high school and they became best friends then high school sweethearts. After high school, they married and started a family. They enjoyed raising their children and spent many weekends at the ballpark watching and coaching their kids in sports. Their focus was loving their children and raising them to be kind, generous and hardworking. They made their home welcome to all. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Jimmy Edward Wheeler, Sr. will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Stockbridge, GA.. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 9:00 AM until the time of service 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
