Jeannette C. Bethune

Jeannette Charlotte Porter Bethune passed away peacefully in her home on January 16, 2021, at the age of 100. She was one of eight children born and raised in northern Maine.She studied nursing at Eastern Maine General Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital, and the University of Pennsylvania. During WWII she served in the Army Nurse Corp, where she met the young 8th Air Force pilot who would become her husband. She was extremely proud of her family's service to country, also including two brothers who were part of the D-Day invasion.Jeannette loved children, raising a son and daughter. She is survived by her children, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a sister by marriage, and generations of nieces and nephews. Family friends, including those at Lithonia United Methodist Church and Eastminster Presbyterian Church, brought joy to her later years.No memorial services are scheduled at this time. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, please consider giving to a local children's hospital, hospice, or veterans' organization, in Jeannette's memory.
