James William "Bill" Cox

October 27, 1936 - March 24, 2022

James William “Bill” Cox of Lilburn, GA., passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022. Born October 27, 1936 in Atlanta, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Burns C. Cox, and the former Jeanette Morris; his brother, Burns C. Cox; and niece, Jennifer Cox. He is survived by his son, Thomas (Amanda) Cox of Lilburn; grandchildren, Nate and Mary Cox; sister in law, Janice Bain Cox; nephew, Burns C. “Bob” Cox, III, both of Tucker; and niece, Lisa Ulmer (Chris) of John’s Creek. Bill was a 1954 graduate of North Fulton High School and an Alumnus of Emory University, Union Theological Seminary, and Vanderbilt University. He served on the faculty of the University of West Georgia (then known as West Georgia College) as a member of the Philosophy department from 1969 to 1998. Bill was a generous, devoted father and grandfather who loved to share the accomplishments of his son, daughter in law, and grandchildren with anyone who would listen. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner on many subjects. He was also a lover of all things sports, especially baseball, spending many days and hours with his son playing catch, watching and attending Atlanta Braves games, and traveling to attend major and minor league games in many other cities. The graveside service to celebrate the life of James William “Bill” Cox will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Arlington Memorial Cemetery, Sandy Springs, GA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Due to COVID-19 regulations, our staff is committed to taking care of our guests and families that we serve. We also ask all guests and family members attending visitations and services to please continue social distancing and if desired to bring and wear a mask.
