James William “JW” Ward, age 92, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019. He is survived by his daughters, Bobbie Ward, Dianne Singley, Lynn Ward (Juan Oramas) Rita Jackson (Lynn); grandchildren, Heath Roebuck, John Turpin, Tommy Crook (Teresa), Luke (Alexis) Jackson, Lauren Jackson, Manny (Heather) Oramas; great grandchildren, Amber Roebuck, Wyatt Crook, Chloe Jackson, Aidyn and Eli Colter, Charlie, Cameron, and Aliyah Jackson; sister, Woodie Ward; brother, Roy Ward; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a host of other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty Ward; parents, Henry and Alma Ward; sister, Winnie Tilley and brother, Lee Ward; special friends, Wilbur Brooks, Billy White, WT & Sue Vanderford, Willard & Joyce Smith and his beloved cat Sassy Renee.JW was born on May 14, 1927 in Banks, County, GA. He graduated from Banks County High School. James proudly served his country in the United States Army at Ft. Knox. He married Betty Jean Kidd on August 4, 1950. JW was an ordained deacon for 67 years at Damacus Baptist Church of Homer, GA., Mt. Tabor Baptist Church of Duluth and First Baptist Church of Duluth where he was a member for 47 years and was named Deacon Emeritus. JW loved his family, friends, and God and was very active in each church, serving as a Sunday school teacher, a deacon and training union director. He was also very involved in working with the church youth as well as a driving the church bus. He was a farmer and welder and enjoyed gardening as long as he was able. In his later years, his farming was still apparent as he loved to get on his riding lawnmower to cut his grass, and trim his bushes. JW will greatly be missed by his family, his friends, his church, as well as his pastor and neighbors.A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11am at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 22nd from 6pm-8pm in the funeral home.
