Click to view Livestream James “Jim” Strickland, age 72 of Loganville, GA, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 48 years, Vickie Lynn Strickland; his daughter, Kristin Styers (David) and his grandson and pal, William of McDonough, GA; sisters, Martha S. Barefoot of Chesapeake, VA, Mary S. Miller (Burnley) of Suffolk, VA, and Elaine S. Moore of Davidson, NC; sister-in-law, Cecelia W. Strickland of Gatesville, NC; brother-in-law, Jack Scutchall of Hollister, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Webster Strickland, Sr.; mother, Grace Warrington Strickland; and brothers, Willie W. Strickland, Jr. and Robert (Bobby) W. Strickland. Jim attended Great Bridge High School, in Chesapeake VA, and Old Dominion University. He served in the Virginia Army National Guard. He retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation in 2003, after 36 years of service. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially their trips to the beach. He enjoyed lengthy conversations with his grandson about trains and railroading, and attended every one of his baseball games. He cherished the bond he had with his sisters and brothers, and loved sharing stories of their childhood. Jim also appreciated the friends he made along the way, from his high school best friend and the fishing buddies that called him skipper, the boys at the railroad, neighbors along the way, and all his garage buddies in Loganville. The Memorial Service to honor and celebrate the life of Jim Strickland will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 1:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the funeral home. You can view the service, which will be livestreamed, either by going to the Tom M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society www.cancer.org, American Heart Association www.heart.org, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org.
