Edwin Richard Kind
February 1, 1946 - April 20, 2022
The family appreciates your prayers during this time. Edwin Richard Kind, age 76, of Snellville, GA passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katherine Melhorn Kind; and loving daughter, Kristy Kind; brother in law, Bill Melhorn (Vicki); nephew, Josh Melhorn (Erin); and great nieces, Ally and Eden Melhorn of Chattanooga, TN. Ed was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Edwin and Lena Kind of Columbus, GA who raised him to be the perfect gentleman he became, and Bella, his devoted, loving chocolate lab. Ed was a 28 year veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country throughout the United States and Germany. He loved books, movies and documentaries about WW I and II, war planes and the American Wild West. Ed loved spending time with his family in the Smoky Mountains, the Gulf of Mexico or attending his daughter’s sporting events. He was truly happy in the outdoors while trout and deep sea fishing, dove and deer hunting, snowmobiling in Jackson Hole or hunting arrowheads on the banks of the Tennessee River. Relic hunting with his metal detector brought him many hours of enjoyment. When not outdoors, you might find him listening to music by Andrea Bocelli, The Beatles, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and any other “60’s” era music. If you ever met him you would never forget him because of his extremely strong handshake. Ed was a Tennessee Vols Fan and never missed a chance to say “Go Big Orange”. He grew up in the Fountain City area of Knoxville, TN and attended The Lutheran School and Central High School. While living there he was a member of The First Lutheran Church in Knoxville which still held many memories including his confirmation into the Lutheran religion. He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America during his younger years. His family later moved to Columbus, GA where he graduated from Jordan High School and attended Columbus College and was a graduate of Cleveland State Community State College in Tennessee. Prior to his career in the United States Army, Ed was a police officer with the Columbus and the Chattanooga Police Departments. Ed was a man of great faith and derived great strength and comfort from his relationship with God. The world is a little darker without the light of Ed Kind. His quick wit, deep wisdom and his genuine and unconditional love will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him. He and his family attended Snellville United Methodist Church. There will be a graveside service with full military honors at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on May 17, 2022 at 12:30 PM. An Honor Guard Company from Ft. Campbell, KY, his last duty station before retiring at Ft. McPherson, GA, will provide the ceremonial detail for the graveside service. A Celebration of Life will be held in Snellville, GA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s honor to The First Lutheran Church and School, 1207 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917 or a personal charity. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, A Family Company, 3705 Highway 78 West, Snellville, GA 30039 (770-979-3200) has been entrusted with the arrangements.
