Click to view the Livestream Doris L. Smith, whose life’s work and passion was her family, is cherished in memory for her loving spirit, cheerful nature, and deep appreciation for beauty in all its forms. A woman of abiding faith, Mrs. Smith passed away peacefully on November 29, 2020 at her residence in Lawrenceville, Georgia. She was 95. Mrs. Smith grew up in a close, military family with six brothers and sisters. Her love of family was evident throughout her life. Mrs. Smith received a bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Miami, was a talented visual artist, and sang in a trio with two of her sisters, performing at public events and on the radio. She married James C. Smith (Maj. Gen., US Army, Ret.) in 1950 and together they raised seven children. Her husband was a career Army officer, and Mrs. Smith supported him in that role for most of his nearly four decades of service to the nation. He predeceased her in 2016 at the age of 93. While the Army life required frequent relocation, the Smith family lived for many years in St. Petersburg, Florida. In addition to her children (Sandra, Ripp, Jamie, Carol, Valerie, Heidi and Rob), Mrs. Smith is survived by 12 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and beloved extended family including Martin, Kristal, Jose, and many nieces and nephews. A private celebration of life is planned. You can view the service, which will be livestreamed, either by going to the Tom M. Wages Facebook page or by clicking the blue link, on the obituary page, on our website.
