Delia Jane DeChime

July 10, 1939 - April 4, 2022

Delia Jane Surridge DeChime age 82 of Lilburn, GA., passed away Monday, April 4, 2022. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Earle (Thompson) Surridge; loving son, Gary Arscott; sisters, Dorothy Chlup, Linley Lebskin, Sheila Bennett and Carlene McTaggart. Delia is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Louis DeChime; her precious Golden Doodle, Duchess; daughter and son in law, Susan and Brett Mills; granddaughters, Lauren Mills and Lindsey Rude (Zachary); step son, Sam DeChime (Mercy) and their daughter, Natalie; sister, Hilary Matalon; many nieces and nephews; as well as special friends, Lee Hopper, Terry Rich, Maryanne Sullivan, Maryanne Greene and many others. Delia was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1939. In 1967 she immigrated with her 2 children, Susan and Gary to the United States, and settled in Miami, Florida. She worked for Southern Bell as an operator for about 18 years. She eventually met and married the love of her life Louis. In 1988 she became a US Citizen, something she was extremely proud of and it showed in her deep love for this country. In 1997, she and Louis made a move to Lilburn, GA., and she became a full time housewife. She absolutely loved her life here. She was an amazing cook and she spoiled her family and friends with her delicious home baked goodies. She was obsessed with cookbooks and scoured for them for new recipes to try. She also loved gardening, sewing (she would make her own clothes and clothes for her daughter), cross stitch, embroidery and crochet. Her latest hobby was jigsaw puzzles. Her granddaughter Lindsey and her husband Zach are both in the U.S. Navy and she would lovingly bake and send goodies to them every couple of weeks. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother as well as a fiercely loyal friend. She had a sweet sassiness, smile, laugh and sometimes the mouth of a sailor. She touched so many lives and had so much love to give. She will certainly be missed by all that knew and loved her. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Delia Jane De Chime will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel, Snellville, GA. Interment will follow at Eternal Hills Memory Gardens, Snellville, GA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 from 12:00 PM until the time of service 2:00 PM.
