He was the oldest brother of six children, who was affectionately known as the "Black Brady Bunch". There were three girls and three boys. Three siblings preceded him in death, Marsha, Gail and Barry with two surviving siblings, Sheila (Howard) Blye and Robert (Jennifer) Peters. The Peters Bunch was a tight knit family who was raised in church and attended Sunday school frequently. This practice set forth the foundation and relationship Charlie had with Christ. He attended Newark Public schools and graduated from Central High School in 1966. He furthered his education and graduated from Newark Art Institute & Technology where he studied Graphic Art. He was very gifted with his hands and was a jack of all trades; machinist, skilled carpenter, artist and full-time comedian (at least he thought so). Lol! In 1968 Charlie married his childhood girlfriend Beulah Pegues and from their union they were blessed with two daughters, Charese and Yolanda. Although their union came to an end years later, Charlie and Beulah shared a lifelong friendship. He later began a career in driving for Hertz Shuttle Transportation at the NY LaGuardia Airport. While in New York he had a long-lasting relationship with his life partner, the late Loren "Toni" Brown. Charlie retired from Hertz in 2016 then relocated to Georgia to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Although he made it very clear to his children that he was retired when he moved to GA, he re-discovered his love for carpentry and left his mark in the homes of his children with his gift of craftmanship. Charlie was also known as "Pop" or "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren. Pop was a jokester who always had a hilarious anecdote or story to share. He was mentally and sometimes physically stuck in the 1970's! He compared everything to that era, from gas prices, movie ticket prices to how cars were designed. His well-known phrase was, "Well back in the day...". Aside from God and family, there will always be a few things synonymous to Pop: playing the lotto, The Jones Girls, Michael Jordan and of course his New York Giants! He had plans to meet his great grandson, go out on his grandson's boat to fish and take a family vacation to Las Vegas to "hit it big" for his family, as he would say. However, God had different plans for him. On September 12, 2021, Charlie departed this life to live in eternity with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is survived by his daughters, Charese Peters, Yolanda (Towan) Cook, Bonus Daughter Ishea Pickett, Lifelong Friend, Beulah Perrin, Grandchildren, Tamara Griffin, Ernest Peters, Towan (Laura) Cook, Christian Cook, Great Grandson, Nicolas "Nico" Cook, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Despite our loss, we thank God for lending us his son for 73 years. He was a huge part of our lives as he left handprints on all our hearts through his love, joy, laughter and spontaneity. His love for Christ will live on through his family and the display of his beautiful works of art. A funeral service honoring the life of Charles will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 12:00pm (Noon) at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Pastor Ronald Dunnigan officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 25th from 11:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm. Condolences may be sent or viewed at www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, 120 Scenic Hwy., Lawrenceville, GA 30046 (770-963-2411) has been entrusted with the arrangements.
