Captain Charles Griffin Mitchell Jr.

Captain Charles Griffin Mitchell, Jr, age 95, of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2018. He is survived by his children, C. Griffin Mitchell, III, Brian Mitchell, Joy (Judd) Wolfe, and Lisa Mitchell; grandchildren; Jennifer, Jessica, Jonathan, Anna, Benjamin, Nicholas, Gage, and John; great grandchildren; Jack, Wyatt, Ella, Hayden, Caleb, and Owen; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce; sons, John Michael Mitchell and Martin Mitchell; and daughter-in-law, Diane C. Mitchell.Charles was a native of Birmingham and graduated from Tulane University. Charles proudly served his country during WWII and Korea in the United States Army. He also served in the Alabama National Guard. Charles served his country for over 20 years and proudly earned the rank of Captain. He retired from Southern Company and Georgia Power Company after 30 years of service. Charles was a member of First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville. In his spare time, you would see Charles enjoying his daily rides around his subdivision in his golf cart talking to the neighbors and making new friends, or at the local Waffle House enjoying the company and food. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed sharing his military adventures.A funeral service honoring the life of Charles will be held on Sunday, December 16,, 2018 at 2:00PM at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with Rev. Inman Houston officiating. Interment will follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park.
