Bettye Jo Wilbourn Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Bettye Jo Wilbourn (Beal), age 84, of Grant, Alabama peacefully passed away on Saturday March 5, 2022 at the home of her brother in Grayson, Georgia.. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Lela Carden Beal; sisters, Margaret Holder and Mary Virginia Edgil; and brothers, Billy Beal and Bobby Beal. She is survived by her children, Michael Wilbourn (Cheryl) of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin and Kelly Wilbourn Brady (Michael) of Lawrenceville, Georgia; grandchildren, Amanda Scheerenberg (Mackenzie), Joshua Wilbourn, Jeremy Wilbourn, Ashley Duteau (Evan), Kyle Fleming, and Heather Fleming; great grandchildren, Jackson Duteau, MJ Scheerenberg, Noah Duteau, and one on the way; siblings, Martha Harless of Gurley, Alabama and Mickey Beal (Sandy) of Grayson, Georgia; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She was born in Garth, Alabama on May 17, 1937 and was a 1955 graduate of Madison County High School in Gurley, Alabama. She was member of The First Baptist Church of Grant. Bettye Jo was a warm and caring people person but also took great pride in being a strong and independent woman. She was witty and blunt, but also kind and compassionate. She could flash her beautiful smile and start up a conversation with everyone she encountered. She never knew a stranger and would always make you feel welcomed. She worked at Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Georgia for over twenty years as a secretary in the counselors' office, and valued the work and the relationships she built there. She graciously assisted in the care of her parents and siblings in their last days. She loved fiercely and deeply and we take comfort in knowing she is now able to peacefully rest in her heavenly home. A graveside celebration of life will take place at Gurley Cemetery, located at Cemetery Road in Gurley, Alabama 35748, on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 1 pm.
