Margarette Elizabeth "Beth" Garrett Bar-Haim of Athens, Georgia, passed away May 8, 2022, at the age of 53 after a long, courageous battle with illness. She is survived by her sons, Joshua Bar-Haim of Atlanta and Caleb Bar-Haim of Athens; her mother, Lattie Garrett, and sister, Laura Garrett, both of Stone Mountain; and numerous loved ones, family, and friends. She is preceded in death by her father George E. Garrett, Jr., and brother George E. Garrett, III. Beth was a lover of Christ, having given her heart to Him as a child, and through the years her faith sustained her. Gifted with an energetic and fun-loving nature with a smile that could light up a room, Beth was a spirited woman with a sparkle-and-shine-personality. She was a “negotiator” with a keen ability to talk her way in to or out of any situation. Beth was a devoted and caring mother. Her most cherished accomplishment was rearing two amazing sons, both of whom are graduates of the University of Georgia. Her boys were her great love in life. Beth graduated high school from DeKalb Christian Academy and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Augusta College. She later earned an Associate of Applied Technology in Cardiovascular Technology from Augusta Technical College - Georgia Heart Institute. Her career included working as a Cardiovascular Technologist at Medical College of Georgia. Later, she studied through The Schenck School to become an Orton-Gillingham Tutor and was certified to teach and practice the fundamentals of language for children with dyslexia. She was one of the few certified tutors in northeast Georgia. Beth tutored at the School Psychology Clinic at the University of Georgia and as an Independent Contractor with schools and individual students. She was well-loved and well-respected in the community. She did so much for many children- not only teaching them to read, but also elevating their sense of self-reliance. Students would often talk to her about things they would not share with other people. She was a great teacher with tremendous patience. Yes, she was a teacher, but her work was about healing — first with the heart then with language.
