Barbara Ann May Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Barbara Ann May, age 83, of Lawrenceville, Georgia went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 28, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hugh D. May, Jr. who died on December 30, 2018. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Dicky and Diane May of Hoschton, GA; four grandchildren, Melissa May Hudspeth (Jared) of Macon, GA, Michael May (Taylor) of Braselton, GA, Megan Farrell Uphaus (Hayden) of Dacula, GA and Will Farrell of Dacula, GA; two great grandchildren, Madison and Ava Grace Hudspeth; son-in-law, Vann Farrell of Dacula, GA; two sisters-in-law, Betty Sue Rhodes of Oakwood, GA and Sara Benoit of Buckhead, GA; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends. Mrs. May was also preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Linda Katherine “Kathie May” Farrell who died in 2006, her parents, Dwight McCracken and Kate Hall McCracken; sister, Linda Barnard. Barbara was born in Chattanooga, TN on August 14, 1938. Mrs. May graduated from Brenau University with a Master degree in Education. Mrs. May taught for over 30 years, serving Hi-Hope, Lawrenceville Elementary, Centerville Elementary, and retired from Pharr Elementary. Hugh and Barbara May were members at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church where they enjoyed the friendships of their church family, especially the Joy Sunday School Class. Mrs. May enjoyed teaching, participating at church and was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren during her lifetime. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her devotion to the students of Gwinnett County and her support to Mr. May as they impacted the education of all students, they encountered over their years of service. There is no greater commitment than to the education of children. Barbara May was a gift to her family, as well as her community. Due to COVID-19 regulations for funeral homes and increase in the different variants, our staff is committed to taking care of the guest and family members for Mrs. May. We are still requesting and asking all guests and family members attending the visitation at the funeral home to please continue social distancing and to bring & wear a mask. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. The Service to Honor and Celebrate the Life of Barbara May will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. at Lawrenceville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Adam Hilderbrandt and Rev. Deanne Lynch officiating. Interment to follow at Gwinnett Memorial Park.
