Our mother, Jeanette (“Janet”) Lowe Weatherby, was taken into the loving arms of Jesus on July 3, 2015, where we know she was joyfully reunited with the love of her life, our daddy, DeWitt William Weatherby, her parents and all of her 9 siblings, whom she had survived.Born on January 7, 1924 in Fyffe Alabama, Janet lived her early years in Gadsden Alabama, before marrying our father in 1942. She often told us that she fell in love with him the moment she saw him. Married just weeks after they met, they moved to Oakridge Tennessee where she worked in a munitions factory in support of the WWII efforts. Daddy enlisted in the Navy. They lived in Providence Rhode Island while he was in the service, eventually settling in Buchanan Georgia and Atlanta in 1960.Janet’s life was not an easy one, having overcome so many difficulties that would weaken most any other person. Mother was a person of amazing faith and her quiet strength and complete trust in the Lord led her and her entire family through. The late and renowned Dr. Charles Allen, Minister of Grace United Methodist Church in Atlanta, was giving a sermon on faith to his congregation and he asked our mother to stand, to which he said “This woman has the greatest faith of any person I have ever known, and we all should strive to trust God the way she does.” He was so right.Early in her marriage she was told she would never be able to conceive a child. Mother gave her prayers to God. He blessed her with 6 children and her most fervent prayer was that her children love, help and encourage one another. All her children adore her, and all ensured that she lacked for nothing as she became older and her health began to deteriorate. She is survived by all 26 of her direct descendants; not one of them lost before her. Her 6 children, Janice Weatherby Riley and husband Tim; Charles Weatherby and wife Suzanne; Sandra Weatherby McBrayer and husband Greg; Alton Ted Weatherby and wife Pam; Sophia Weatherby Williams and husband Mitch; and Sonya Weatherby McRee. Her 11 grandchildren, Patrick Riley, Mike Weatherby, Daniel Riley, Pamela Weatherby, Alex Weatherby, Elizabeth Moore, Brian Jack, Rick McRee, Claire Rice, Mary Grace McRee and Wills McRee. She is also survived by 9 great grandchildren, William and Lee Ann Weatherby, Evan Weatherby, Sybil and Alyse Jeanette Weatherby, Parker and Adalyn Moore, and Ansley and Judah Rice. She is also survived by 3 step grandchildren, Jenna Oetjen, Ashley Moore and Sandy Bartlett and 7 step great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Madalyn, Gabby, Avery, Lindsey, Carly Grace and Trevor.Janet was a beacon of light and her capacity for love, empathy and understanding was never-ending. Even as she battled for her health, you could also count on her to uplift others. A kinder and sweeter person could not be found if we searched the earth over and over. The family will receive visitors Monday evening, July 6, 2014 at Wages Funeral Home in Snellville Georgia from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Her homecoming service will be held Tuesday, July 7 at Wages Funeral Home at noon. Mother will then be interned next to our father in a graveside service at Buchanan City Cemetery in Buchanan Georgia at 4 p.m.These words were written by Elizabeth Browning, and we’ll say them again for our mother: “We love you to the depth and breadth and height our souls can reach”. Now and forever. Until we meet again, we hold you in our hearts, never to stop.Your loving children, Janice, Charles, Sandra, Al, Sophia, SonyaCondolences may be viewed or sent to www.wagesfuneralhome.com. Tom M.
