Albert Sidney Hancock, Sr., age 73 of Lilburn, GA., passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years Patricia Daniels Hancock. He is survived by his children, Albert Sidney Hancock, Jr, John David Hancock and wife Kelli, Catherine Wright Mayo, Patrick Cooper Hancock, Jack Daniel Hancock, and Alicia Belle Hancock; 2 brothers, Danny and Roy Hancock; 22 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.Mr. Hancock attended the Olympia H.S. in Columbia, SC. He was a Chief Petty Officer 1st class with 21 years of service with the U.S. Navy before retiring. He worked with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints welfare services in both Jacksonville, FL and Atlanta, GA, for 23 years. He also served as a Bishop with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Jacksonville, FL, for three years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.The viewing service for Albert Sidney Hancock, Sr, will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Tom M. I will always remember Mr. Hancock for the great family man he was. One who truly loved his wife and held her in such high esteem. I also knew him to be a great father. One who truly loved all of his children unconditionally. I am very thankful to have known he and Mrs. Hancock, and I will always admire the love they shared for one another and their children. I pray all family members and loved ones will be comforted with peace during this difficult time, and that each of you may find happiness and joy in your fondest memories. Amen. My sincere condolences to the Hancock family. I knew Sydney in grammar school. We went through the first to the 6 grade together. I know that he was a good father, grandfather and great grandfather because of the way he was as a child. Just wanted you to know that I was thinking of his family.

Sidney and I were friends raised on Virginia Street in Olympia. We used to go fishing down at the river. I remember one time that we were down at the river fishing, I dropped a catfish and its fin stuck in my foot. It started swelling and I couldn't walk back home so Sidney had to piggie-back me all the way home. I have never forgotten about that. Rest in Peace, Sidney and thank you for your many years of service for our Country.

Sidney, David, Cathy, Daniel, Patrick and Alicia: I am very sorry for the loss of your father. Although i hadn't seen him in several years, my memories of him are fresh in my mind. I can hear his laugh and see his smile. That is how I will remember him. Love each other the way he and your mom and the Lord would have you do. You will see him again and though faithfulness to God's covenants be together forever.
